Women In The Black (WITB)  hosted the 14th Annual “Who’s the Boss” Women’s Business Conference on Saturday, June 9th.   The African Women Power (AWP) Network along with over 100 women business owners, attended the event.     Speakers discussed topics on marketing, financials, strategy, technology, and social media.  Sandi Webster - Author and Principal of Consultants 2 Go,  Vicki Fuller - VLF Development LLC,  Kim Bourne - CEO of Playfair Planning Services,  Sheena Foster - CEO at CuriousTea,  Harriet Rosebud - Designer and Owner, Rosebud Hats,  Sophia Davis - Reporter at BTE-TV,  Donna Peterson - President and Owner at Classy Lady,  Marsha Haygood - Founder and President of StepWise Associates, were some of the speakers in attendance. Princess Jenkins is president of Women In The Black and founder of The BrownStone.  She is a successful entrepreneur who owns two stores in Harlem and has featured on the AWP Network blog.  Princess uses the incredible platform that she has been given to promote entrepreneurship, mentor women, and inspire change in the Harlem community and beyond. She is a mentor to many women entrepreneurs and my dear friend. This year, the Women In The Black team launched a scholarship program with a generous contribution from FIT, Fashion Institute of Technology, which will empower young women to become future entrepreneurs in the area of fashion and design. What makes this event great is the  successful businesswomen that you network with and meet.  Also, the non-judgmental atmosphere allows women who have not yet started their entrepreneurial ventures, an opportunity to learn from amazing speakers, and listen to personal stories of perseverance.  This is my second year attending the conference,  the first time was as a staff member with my previous employer. My role then, was to provide feedback to women who gave their business pitch. This time, participants practiced and received feedback on how to give a good business pitch from Sandi Webster and Isisara Bey Princess Jenkins and her team make this event a success every year and I hope that you will join me next year.   View pictures from the event here:
