Apply: Women in Science STEAM Camp Namibia

There is a strong gender imbalance in STEM. The WiSci Camp aims to bridge that gap through access to education, mentorship opportunities, and leadership training. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Design, and Mathematics. The camp will include a STEAM curriculum led by experts in their fields, as well as leadership development activities and learning excursions.

The 2018 WiSci (Women in Science) STEAM Camp will be held in Windhoek, Namibia at the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST). The application is open to high school girls ages 15 to 18 in

  • Namibia,
  • Swaziland,
  • Kenya,
  • Ethiopia, and the
  • United States

Applicants must have the expressed permission of a parent or guardian to apply for this opportunity. It is required that applicants have at least one year of secondary school still left to complete, and can commit to attend the full duration of camp. Applicants should also have regular access (at least once per week) to internet at a home, school, community center, internet café or other location.

This is a public-private partnership program designed to expand STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and design, and mathematics) exposure and opportunities for adolescent girls, this year’s camp will take place June 17-June 28, 2018. The 2018 WiSci Girls STEAM Camp is led by the U.S. Department of State alongside partners Girl Up Campaign, the Intel Corporation, Google, NASA, World Learning, and others.
