Launched in 2012, Storytellers In FashionTM sheds light on the creative process and inspiration behind various 54 Kingdoms designs, reflected through oral and visual presentations, in addition to performances from other artists sharing their stories.

54 Kingdoms is an apparel and accessory company that brings the Pan-African creative, history, and culture to the doorstep of global fashion. Through the seamless integration of symbolic, cultural, and historical content inspired by Africa and its Diaspora, together with current trends in fabric, color, and style, 54 Kingdoms designs products with unique storylines that are marketable to the global community.

Founders – Nana Poku and Kwaku Awuah, have always wanted to make a difference in the world. They both have a burning desire to create a conscious movement through fashion. Fashion they say, should not just be about aesthetics; rather it should be the thread that interweaves cultures, identities, and displays a pattern of pride and self-expression.

This event will be hosted by radio personality, Dionne Adessa, and will feature Congolese-born singer, Rafiya and comedian sensation, Namó. Set to join the Storytellers In FashionTM stage for the first time is Haitian born writer and internationally respected poet, D-Colin. Danielle Colin has written poetry since age 11, and performed at the Nuyorican Poet’s Café in New York City.

This year, 54 Kingdoms will share stories behind their stories, as the company reflects on its five-year journey under the theme: Pieces of Narratives. Storytellers In FashionTM 2017 is sponsored and supported by DROM, African Youth Excellence (AYE), Ancestral Voices, KTA Mobile, Broken Limits, Gusa By Victoria, and African New Dawn.
